Do a search on this forum for 'compressor clutch gap', you will find the method of adjusting it to cure the problem you are having.

Clutch gap or a massive gap in your system (IE a leak).

I have had a similar problem. Also do a search for "Air Gap". Nothing to do with gas leaking. Let us know how you get on.

Hi, I had the same problem, I noticed the clutch wasn't engaged when it wasn't working, I then removed the relay it was really hot, I banged it on the bodywork a couple times and plugged it back in, I intend to replace the relay although I haven't had a problem since. Hope this helps. Ian

Clutch gap or the coil that pulls it in. Cluct gap should be 0.4mm - 0.6mm max. Coil resistance should be around 4.5 ohms. If the AC cools the car then the clutch dis-engages but won't re-engage when hot then the gap is too big or the coil isn't generating enough magnatisum to re-engage the plate (especially when the engine is warm as heat weakens magnetic fields) Just had my compressor on my V70 replaced and the job is a bit of a B*tch as there is very little space to work in. With careful movement of the dryer, and a few pipes the compressor can be dropped down low enough to get a pulley clamp in the threaded holes on the clutch plate and pull the plate off and re-shim it
