Tailgate rattle

The tailgate on my V70 rattles like crazy. Looking closer the outer plastic skin has come away from the metal frame, accident damage from previous owner? It rattles when closing the tailgate, closing any other door and worst of all when driving on the motorway. Anybody come across this before or have any suggestions on fix other than replacing the whole tailgate? Thanks

have you thought about trying applying a bead of clear silicone sealant to the split seam? this might just be enough to bond them together and prevent it rattling further. yeah, ok its not what it really needs, but saves on buying a replacemtent. if you build the sealent line up bnit at a time, you will get the best effect, without applying too much and it being too visual so to speak,

Did ask Volvo bodywork to quote but their suggestion was 'we could put some mastic in there, but we won't guarantee the work or we could replace the tailgate for ......' I think I fainted as I don't recall the amount only that it makes me dizzy trying to remember.:err:

I would take it to a LOTUS Bodyshop , its was designed by them as per current elise methods they will be able to join it with something no doubt , it needs a special composite glue ...
