Hi I own a 2.4 DS SE XC90 2004. The other day the key fob wouldnt open the locks....I ended up opening the car with the key and then locking it and after a few minutes the fob decided to work again. a couple of days later my wife used her own key fob and it refused to open with the key fob. she ended up opening with the key itself however when starting the car, the alarm wouldnt stop Does anyone know A) how to override the alarm and immobiliser if this problem occurs again? B) how to resolve the problem (other than changing the batteries) some other websites suggest this type of fault can occur with interference from wireless doorbells etc any ideas would be greatly appreciated, particularly about how to override thanks

Hi Sheikr, I've had a similar problem when visiting my parents. I'm convinced it's due to Wireless interference. Took the laptop with me and found 11 wireless networks in the area. Only way to unlock the car with the remote was to get really close to the windscreen. After several attempts it worked. At my home here I can unlock the doors from many meters away. So tip; Drive somewhere and see if the remotes now work ok

Many thanks. Im convinced as well its to do with Wireless intereference. A guy at work had a similar problem with a differnet car...and the problem was resolved when he moved house. thankfully, it only happened to our car a couple of times. your tip may work however do you know if you can actually drive it when you open the doors with the key. I would have though the immobiliser is still engaged and from what my wife told me, the alarm wouldnt stop so any ideas how to deactivate these?

Wireless networks operate on a frequency of about 2.4Ghz, compared to the car key fobs of 433.92Mhz, so there should not be any interference from these. A more likely source is a faulty or badly designed wireless door bell, some wireless burglar / fire alarms, or wireless garage door controllers. All of these tend to use the 433.92Mhz frequency. If these get stuck on then they can effectively jam anything else from using that frequency within a certain distance (dependant on the power of the transmitter). If you can lay your hands on a radio scanner then tune into 433.92 and listen out for any interference.
